The playlist that never gets boring
Playing my Spotify ‘Top Songs 2018’ left me completely confused.
Did I really listen to that much old school pop? And that dodgy remix of Shape of You? There must be an account error. Or more likely, our music tastes change as we do.
The childhood U2 obsession gets left behind. The Black Eyed Peas years are now forgotten. That dodgy remix of Shape of You certainly won’t be on my 2019 playlist.
And yet some music stands the test of time. The classics remain classic. And as I enter another year of bad music choices, I pray that one song will remain firmly on repeat.
The Ultimate Classic
The gospel is the ultimate classic that never grows old or never gets boring. The Corinthian Christians were the first to make it into a song.
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures… he was buried, [and] he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
God has shown me such great love in sending Christ to die for my sins. He was buried and raised so that soon I will be raised with him (2 Corinthians 4:14).
This song’s on repeat in God’s word – Jesus’ death and resurrection all happened ‘according to the scriptures.’
And it’s a song I need to hear in 2019. Again and again.
The Transforming Playlist
However your music tastes change in 2019, Jesus’ past and present love for us and our blessings in him should prompt our repeated praise (Ephesians 1:3).
If this classic seems ‘so last year’, you’ve not heard it right. Spend 2019 with it back on the playlist of your life until you experience how life-changing, how eternity-transforming, it is.
I’ll do the same. Along with some edgy indie band to balance out last year’s playlist.
