Water of the Word - Andrew Case
Not every man is a husband. But those who are should pray for their wives.
That’s what Andrew Case thinks. And he’s written a collection of bible-soaked prayers called 'Water of the Word' to help husbands do it.
Case gives two reasons why husbands should pray for their wives. Both are good.
The first is that Christ does.
"Christ Jesus who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." (Romans 8:34b)
Christ prays for his bride. He sets the example of the husband who never gets tired of praying for his wife.
And when we pray like this for our wives, we obey Paul's command to love our wives like Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25).
But Case gives a second reason which is just as important. We need to.
God's God. And we’re not.
There are many things that we cannot do for our wives. Protection from evil. Growth in pain. Lasting joy. The list goes on.
But God can do all of these things. And more.
Praying for our wives is not optional. It is necessary. Necessary for all the people in our lives, and especially the woman closest to our heart.
