And he said 'Don't cry'

As Jesus walked into Nain
A man was carried out dead
The makeshift bed
Was spread between the mourners’ arms
No words spoken
The mother, heartbroken
A widow
Wept

The eternal Creator stopped at the gate
And was troubled
Troubled that the ones he loves
The ones he came to save
Were headed for the grave

Moved to compassion
He called out as they passed him by
Don’t cry

The eternal Creator
Took his place at the widow’s side
Don’t cry
He implored her

Don’t cry
Then by the gate to Nain
He lay his hand
On the makeshift bed
Of the dead, young man
And said
Get up

As the man sat up and spoke
The crowd
Wide eyed
Stopped crying

Lord of all
Even the grave
God has come to save his people
